“My father Sam Spanierman had wonderful dealings with Larry Shar's father, Hilly. Now, Larry and his son, Brad, and my son, Gavin, and I are all working together. That's three generations! The Shars are the most accommodating and charming people to do business with. They love their frames. They love their clients. They love what they do... and it shows.”
—Ira Spanierman, Spanierman Gallery, LLC
“At Lowy, the Old Master collector, the Impressionist and Modern Art collector will find the finest frames, period or modern, in existence.”
—Mrs. Randolph Hearst
“I became acquainted with Julius Lowy in the 1970s as a twenty-something-year-old art dealer working for M. Knoedler and Company. Knoedler trusted Julius Lowy with the conservation of many great paintings, and so did their artists. I recall that one of Knoedler's artists, Salvador Dali, became a regular Lowy client. When I started my own firm in 1980, I naturally used Lowy's highly skilled and up-to-date conservation department for the American paintings I purchased and the estates that I came to represent. Lowy has always risen to the challenge of providing historically correct and careful conservation. I continue to be pleased with their work.”
—Deedee Wigmore, D. Wigmore Fine Art Inc
“Our company has been working with Lowy for many years. We have always felt that the quality of their workmanship is superior. Whenever we bring in a work of art, the help they provide in selecting the right frame is invaluable. The collection of frames at Lowy is so broad that whether we want a very simple modern frame or a very complex antique frame, everything is always there. It is a very complete resource.”

About Us

Lowy's widely respected expertise has attracted clients from every sector of the art world. Our client roster includes renowned museums and fine art galleries, curators of institutional and corporate collections, and fine art auction houses such as Christie's and Sotheby's. Our comprehensive fine arts services are also an invaluable resource for many of the country's top interior designers and architects, who collaborate with us to create architectural and interior design elements like cornices, mantle pieces and framed mirrors, in addition to picture frames.

Additionally, we are frequently called upon to care for prestigious private collections, including those of David Rockefeller, Ralph Lauren, Richard Manoogian and Mrs. Randolph Hearst. And ever since Lowy opened its doors in 1907, we have been the first choice for artists seeking top-quality conservation services and frames for their own artworks. Salvador Dali, Alfonso Ossorio, Arbit Blatas, Leon Kroll, George L.K Morris and Paul Jenkins are among the many noted artists we have proudly served, as well as the estates of Maurice Prendergast, William Glackens, George Bellows, John Sloan and Max Weber.

Some of our notable projects over the years have included reframing Paul Cezanne's The Bather and Vincent van Gogh's Portrait of Joseph Roulin for the Museum of Modern Art, and reframing three large paintings by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, which are displayed atop the grand staircase in The Metropolitan Museum of Art. More recently, the curatorial staff of the White House used the digital Lowy Scan™ system to select a frame for Cincinnati Enquirer, an 1888 still life by William M. Harnett that was greatly admired by President Jimmy Carter. We also recently fit a beautiful period frame for The Old Mill by Jasper Francis Cropsey for the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia.

Over the years, our conservation department has had the pleasure of conserving paintings by a wide array of artists , including El Greco, John Singer Sargent, Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Albert Bierstadt, Franz Kline and Ad Reinhardt, to name a few. Notable conservation projects include restoring one of Jasper Johns' own American Flag paintings and The Spirit of '76 by Archibald M. Willard for the town hall in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
